I do most of my shopping at The Book Depository and they have never disappointed me. They offer great prices and free shipping to most international destinations - which is a huge PLUS for those of us in South Africa or other places where books tend to be quite expensive.
I've been trying to force myself to buy less books since I already have a TBR list a mile long, but my true weakness is when The Book Depository offers their 10% off coupons. I simply can't resist the temptation.
They are doing it yet again! Until 16 May they have a 10% off coupon for their UK site. To take advantage of the offer, simply click on this 10% discount link, add books to your shopping cart and be sure to enter and apply the discount code (PPN3WS) before checkout.
Hi, I just wanted to ask if Book Depository is 100% reliable? Do your books ever get stolen or not not delivered? Please let me know, as I've had a few bad experiences of packages getting stolen in the past. I'd love to hear anything you gave to say about Book Depository in South Africa. Thanks a million x
ReplyDeleteHi Natasha,
DeleteI haven't had any problems with the Book Depository. All the books I've ordered from them have arrived. I had one book that I though was lost in the post and after contacting them they posted another. The new one arrived and a week later the missing one showed up too.
Admittedly I last ordered from them about 6 months ago, so I can't comment about the current conditions with the Post Office strike on the go.
Thanks :) that really helps. I think I'll try ordering a book or two 💕 or three...
Deleteare there any other costs when receiving the books? i know they offer free shipping to SA, but what othet costs are payable? i dont want to go crazy & then have a heart attack when i go fetch my books! thanks!
DeleteHi Simone,
DeleteThere's a change that the package gets inspected by customs and you'll be charged a handling fee + VAT. If I remember correctly from my purchases that worked out at around R30-R50 for some of the books I ordered. That being said, I received most of mine without having to pay anything extra.
It's best to compare the local prices with BD and see if it's worth it. I'd say a price difference of around R60 per title should be a very safe bet that you'll end up saving.
Hi Everyone. I ordered a few books from BD at the end of January 2015. To date, the books have not arrived. How long have you all waited in the past for your books? I have been issued with a 10% discount coupon and I would like to buy some more books but I'm nervous to do this in light of the fact that the other books haven't arrived. Also, are your packages delivered to your door or do you need to collect from the post office? Thanks. Kim
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteNormally the books arrived within 11 - 15 business days. With the post office in the state it's currently in (I've heard there's another strike in the works) things might be delayed quite a bit. You normally have to collect from the post office.
Thanks for the response. I have ordered books from 2 different overseas companies in January and I have not received either. I actually asked Books Depository before I ordered whether they would deliver by courier to my home address and they said yes. I thus didn't think that I would need to collect from the PO. I think that also means that some sort of customs duty will be charged. I have read up on customs duty and I was under the impression that it doesn't apply to books but others have said that when collecting from the post office they have had to pay for their parcels. I'll let you know if they ever arrive. Thanks. Kim
ReplyDeleteMost of the books I ordered didn't have any extra customs duty, but a few did. I think it depends on if your parcels are selected for spot checks or not. Really hope your books arrive, if not be sure to let BD know since they are happy to send replacements provided enough time has passed.
